Twenty-five years ago, brothers Christopher, Theodore, Peter Drivas and business partner Robert Van Meer combined their hospitality, wedding and business expertise to form the Dockside Group. The close-knit family business now boasts eight Sydney venues and restaurants all situated in iconic Sydney Harbour locations.

The story of Dockside Group begins in 1986 with the founding of WatersEdge Restaurant at Pier One, Walsh Bay. WatersEdge transformed from a seafood restaurant to a quality venue in 1993 and fast became the most admired wedding venue in Sydney, winning the ABIA Best Wedding Venue in 1994 and 1995 and many more ABIA accolades in its lifetime.

In 1998, Dockside Group grew to include Dockside, a large function venue on the first level of the Cockle Bay Wharf, part of the Darling Harbour development. Dockside developed into a leading conference and function venue and is now recognised as a market leader in the events and meetings industry.

In 2001, Dockside Group acquired L’Aqua, situated on the roof top of Darling Park, just above Dockside. After extensive modifications to the interior and installation of state-of-the-art audio visual and technical facilities, L’Aqua was successfully re-launched as a contemporary and stylish conference and special event function venue.

In 2005, Star Room joined the Dockside Group portfolio, situated at the top of the Imax Theatre complex, with extensive northern views of Darling Harbour and the CBD. Soon after, Ice Cube Seafood Grill and Bar was acquired below the complex and in 2011 the restaurant was refurbished and reopened as a stylish new gourmet pizza restaurant called, EAT LOVE PIZZA.

During 2007 and 2008 Dockside Group acquired Italian Village, Waterfront and Wolfies in Campbell’s Cove in Sydney’s historic Rocks precinct. These restaurants are situated in one of the most captivating dining positions in Sydney, offering guests’ unparalleled views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and world famous Opera House.

In March 2012, WatersEdge closed its doors after 27 years of operation at Pier One in Walsh Bay. The venue closed due to the conclusion of its lease contract and is relocating, with the new site yet to be announced.

Dockside Group is now one of the most experienced and successful hospitality organisations in Sydney.The second generation of Drivas’ are now working throughout the business, a testament to the strength of the company.
